BIOGRAPHY
Ryan Huang, 13 years old, a piano student under Dr. Michael Berkovsky. He has studied piano with Dr. Olga Chichova since the age of 6.
Award and Prizes:
- Ryan is one of the 16 admitted contestants in The Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists in 2023;
- The winner of the 2023 The Royal Conservatory of Music The Taylor Academy Concerto Competition;
- 1st Prize, Oakville Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition 2023 and will play Brandenburg Concerto no.5 with the orchestra on the Gala Concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the orchestra Oct 2023;
- The winner of the North York Music Competition Concerto Competition (2019 and 2023);
- 1st Prize, the XXII ‘The Nutcracker’ International Televised Music Competition in Moscow (Russia) – Dec, 2021;
- 1st Prize, WPTA International Piano Competition (Finland) , 2021;
- 1st Prize, the Young Euregio Piano Award IPC (Germany) , 2021 ;

Other Performances:
Ryan performed in Isaac Stern Auditorium (main hall) at Carnegie Hall in New York City twice before the pandemic. In July 2019, Ryan was invited by SMG (Shanghai Media Group) to play his first full length solo concert ‘Sounds of Summer by Ryan Huang’ in the prestigious Shanghai Symphony Hall. The tickets were sold out within three days. In addition to the above, he has also performed as a soloist in Weill Recital Hall, Rose Theatre; Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Oakville Performing Arts Centre; Markham Theatre; PC.HO Theatre; John Bassett Theatre, Mississauga Living Arts Centre; RCM Mazzoleni Hall; Boston Conservatory Music Hall, New England Conservatory Williams Hall, etc.
Interviews and Charity Events
- May, 2023, Ryan was interviewed by Your TV and Cogeco as the representative of the performers selected to play with Burlington New millennium Symphony Orchestra.
- Jan 20, 2023, Ryan was invited by the Education Department of Newfoundland and Labrador as the guest speaker for an educational program for all K-12 public school students and teachers. In the session, students and teachers got to watch a 50min recording about Ryan’s music journey in Newfoundland, as well as his performances with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by a joint discussion panel with Ryan to talk about his thoughts regarding music and life.
- In July 2022, Ryan and his family were interviewed by Phoenix TV.
- May, 2022, Ryan was interviewed by CBC News regarding his upcoming performance with Newfoundland symphony orchestra, the interview was publicized in the TV channel;
- May, 2022, Ryan gave a public speech to 3000+ on-site and online students in St Johns to share his music life and his life outside music world.
- Dec, 2021, Ryan was interviewed by RTR (Russian Television and Radio) as the winner of the 22nd Moscow Nutcracker Televised Music Competition.

- In October 2020, Ryan and his family were interviewed for a cover story about his musical talents by the magazine ‘Neighbours’.
- May 2019, Ryan was interviewed by Poland National TV as one of the Laureate of the 27th International Chopin Competition for Children and Youth.
- Ryan was invited by Steinway to play with OCCM Symphony Orchestra in 2019 in the ‘Music for Love’ charity concert organized by Steinway Gallery, National Youth Development Association and Sickkids Foundation and raised thousands of dollars to support sick kids.
In addition to this special edition, every year Ryan participated in several charity concerts organized by Steinway. Every year Ryan performed in various CMC fund raising concerts to support music education for less fortunate children, including one chaired by the legendary MC of classic music radio 96.3, Kerry Stratton. Every year Ryan performed in the Cystic Fibrosis Canada Association Fund Raising Concert. During Covid, Ryan and his sister put together a recording which included performances of their piano, violin, cello and voice, and delivered it to the local elderly home for the residents to enjoy during the lock down time. He also performed in several online charity concerts to thank the front-line medical workers.
Others
In addition to solo piano, Ryan is an accomplished accompanist who has played with his sister Emily’s cello and won first prizes in Music and Stars Awards International Music Competition, Rocky Mountain International Music Competition, the GOCAA International Music Competition Ryan is also an advanced violin player, winning numerous local, provincial and international competitions. Ryan is a top student in school. From grade 1 to 6, he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award every year by the school. This is an award given to the student who achieves the highest academic accomplishments overall of each grade. Ryan is currently a grade 7 student in Upper Canada College, one of the best independent schools in Canada. He plays French horn in the UCC Junior school concert band. In the UCC school musical, Adventures of a Comic Book Artist, he acted in the lead role as the hero, Stanley Leonardo Sappovitz. He is the editor of his school newspaper – UCC News. Ryan was admitted by John Hopkins University – Center for Talented Youth with Highest Awards for both math and language arts at Grade 2. He has been a member of Mensa International since age 7. In leisure time, he likes coding, playing chess and hockey for the Oakville Rangers Organization, and reading.
